A figure of Rei Ayanami.
Her first name, "Rei", is derived from the Sailor Moon character, Rei Hino. This was so that Kunihiko Ikuhara, a director of Sailor Moon, would work on the Evangelion series.
"Rei" is also the pronounciation of the Japanese word 零, which means "zero". Which is why she has 00 as her designation. Apparently this is also meant as a pun on Zero airplane.
Her surname, "Ayanami" is derived from a Japanese Fubuki-class destroyer, named Ayanami.
